“Feed my lambs – take care of my sheep.” (John 21:15-16)

The great Chief shepherd who shepherd his sheep properly, who carry the lambs in his bosom and who takes care of “the sheep that have lambs”, is Jesus himself. But now he says to Peter, ´Do you truly love me – feed my lambs! Do you truly love me, take care of my sheep!` and immediately after, ´Follow me!

It’s the Lord who, here, asks his erring disciple to do him a favour. As he himself is a shepherd, Peter must also be that, - be his fellow worker and servant. And all friends of Jesus get a share in the same grace.

Calling and occupation may be different, but all of us are called to follow Christ and be his servants. To serve others, as he has served us. And to all who love him, he says, ´Follow me!`

When Jesus says, ´I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full`, and in this way makes all his available for us, then he also wants that we, with the same love, shall tell our neighbour, ´For my Lord’s sake who has done so much good to me and does it every day -, so now I would like to serve you. Take now what is mine, just as I have got what he has and is. I shall no longer live for myself or call anything mine. With all I am and have, I want to be available for you and everybody.`

That is to be a follower of Christ! And that is the real meaning of our lives as Christians, as you know.
