Part 21 of 31 from "Christ our Righteousness".

“My faithful love will be with him.” (Psalm 89:24)
You have begun living with your saviour, and you sincerely want to be his.
Nevertheless you are so full of sin, and you offend as often and hard, that you think the Lord must drop you.
You should remember what you can expect from the Lord for your sins. He says it here.
He will punish the sin with ´the rod and hard blows` inside in your conscience – and outside, if the first isn’t enough. But he won’t take his mercy from you because when it comes to the grace, then it’s the Son he has to do with, and not you.
The grace is independent of your piety and therefore it cannot be lost because of your sin. If it could, it was no grace at all.
And when you experience the truth of what he threatens - namely the rod and torments, then you can still believe the truth in his promises: that you are allowed to live in an everlasting incessant grace.
You mustn’t misunderstand him when he punish your sin with the rod and torments, because you have sinned against him, and think that he is angry with you.
Therefore you must know as an arranged matter between God and you, that if you gain experience of both sin and punishment, then, still the grace stands firm for ever – for Christ’s sake.
