Freedom from the law.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” Galatians 5:1a.

The fruit of the forgiveness of sins is freedom from the law. If we are in the grace, we own the forgiveness of sins all the time. And with that, we are always free from the judgment of the law. This is our perfect freedom from the law.

Freedom from the law is also that I, in my conscience, have been freed from the yoke of bondage of the law. But this freedom is an imperfect freedom. Because this freedom is dependent on my faith. And my faith is never perfect.

An everlasting grace reigns in God’s heart. He is fully satisfied by the work of salvation which the Son has accomplished. In my heart, on the other hand, it constantly alternates. There is an incessant fight between light and darkness, between faith and unbelief.

Hymns of thanksgiving are everlasting in Heaven. Unceasingly sounds the hymns of thanksgiving to the Lamb who bought us to God. But here on earth the light hours with delight and hymns of thanksgiving are short-lived.

In the big book of God, my account is for ever signed and made up. But in my little passbook – the conscience – there are only rare hours, where I am not tormented by remaining debt. Because we have an enemy here who constantly try to enter in new and old debt, only to make us anxious and doubt the grace.

But thank God! The covenant of grace, which God has entered into with us in Christ, stands firm. He doesn’t impute our sin to us, because it has been imputed to Him. Even though we feel condemned by the words of the law, God doesn’t condemn.
We are free in Christ Jesus.
